Food Hunt: Where to go this weekend?

May 29, 2017

Thinking of where to go for the upcoming week? Check out the Greater Palm Springs Restaurant Week and savor the most exciting eateries throughout the Coachella Valley. Below are a few of our favorites.

Restaurant Name: Chi Chi at Avalon Hotel

Chi Chi at Avalon offers amazing four-course dinner set for only $39. For the starter, you can choose Burrata, Smoked Salmon Lavash, or my favorite, bone marrow. For the 2nd course, you can choose from summer melon & snow crab (my recommendation), heirloom tomato salad, or baby beets. For the 3rd course, you have the choice of lemon ricotta gnudi, grilled whole branzino, montana duroc pork chop (trust me – this is one of the best pork chops we have had after trying hundreds of pork chop dishes) or grilled bone-in short rib. To complete your meal, you have the choice of berries and cream, strawberry shortcake, or chocolate mousse. Come with a group of four so you can try every single item on the menu. They offer outdoor seating, which oversees the swimming pool, or opt for indoor seating if you want to stay cool. Don’t forget to order the drinks, because they taste as amazing as the food.

Address: 415 S Belardo Rd, Palm Springs, CA 92262

Price: $39 (4-course meal)

Restaurant Name: WP Kitchen + Bar

Located on El Paseo in Palm Desert, WP Kitchen + Bar is one of Wolfgang’s newest dining concepts. During the restaurant week, they will offer a 3-course menu with a choice of chilled red pepper soup, chopped summer vegetable salad or crisp calamari to start the meal. My choice for the 2nd course would be Rigatoni Pasta, but you can never go wrong with the Kitchen +Bar Burger. End your meal with a salted caramel pudding or molten chocolate cake topped with Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream. We all scream for ice cream!

Address: 73-130 El Paseo, Palm Desert, CA 92260

Price: $29 (3-course meal)

Restaurant Name: Great Shakes

Who doesn’t want some great shakes for the summer? Great Shakes offers a variety of shakes that are not only Instagram-friendly but tasty! They have been featured on many lists of best milk shakes in United States. We recommend you order the Blueberry Hill, which is creamy and well flavored. And the best part – each shake comes with a homemade donut!

Address: 160 S Palm Canyon Dr,Ste A, Palm Springs, CA 92262

Price: $6

Restaurant Name: La Quinta Cliffhouse Grill & Bar

During the restaurant week, La Quinta Cliffhouse Grill & Bar is offering a generous feast for $39. Their 3-course meal begins with a choice of soup, salad or bruschetta. The main course is between pork chop, halibut, lamb or Osso Buco. For the dessert, you get a choice of dark chocolate mousse or Crème Brûlée. Great food, attentive service, and a scenic view make this restaurant a memorable place.  You can also enjoy the sunset view while dining here. If you have an extra-large appetite, I highly recommend you order the ice cream pie, topped with fudge and macadamia nuts. Even better? They offer free valet parking!

Address: 78250 Highway 111, La Quinta, CA 92253

Price: $39 (3-course meal)

Restaurant Name: Mikado Japanese Steakhouse at JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa

Are you looking for a dining place with a fun and unique experience? Then you must visit Mikado Japanese Steakhouse at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. For only $39, your three-course meal can look like this: Ahi Poke for appetizer, New York Steak & Shrimp for main entrée, and Green Tea Ice Cream for dessert. Their food is fresh and perfectly seasoned. Chefs are very entertaining here. They have amazing cocktails, too. At the end of the meal, your chef will throw shrimps at you to catch with your mouth. Sometimes, the shrimps will end up on your face! Good luck!

Here is a quick tip: arrive at the restaurant at least 20 minutes before your reservation and you can experience a fun boat ride from the JW Marriott to Mikado. This will be a huge hit for kids and adults alike.

Besides a lot of great food, don’t forget to check out one the most frequently photographed installation, the “Mirage” by Doug Aitken, a full-scale sculpture that is comprised entirely of mirrors which reflect the dessert landscape. Since the mirrors reflect the landscape, they provide a different image depending on the time of the day. They have recently extended the exhibition until October 31, 2017, so be sure to check it out and have your camera ready!
